Quaboag Quacumquasit Lakes Association
The QQLA works to enhance and protect the environment of Brookfield’s two major lakes: Quaboag (North Pond) and Quacumquasit (South Pond).
Activities include:
-Five-year project to study and report on the quality of the Spencer Waste Water Treatment Plan and testify to the NPDES certification regarding the inadequacy of meeting the Federal Standards for WWTP above recreational Lakes.
-Two-year project to identify issues with replacement of the bridge that includes the flow barrier (weir) protecting South Pond from high phosphorus backflow.
-Yearly weed treatments on both lakes.
-Trash removal on both lakes and Port-a-potty on South Pond Beach.
-Cooperation with the C4 Quaboag River project in water testing, routing.
-Bench installation on both lakes.
-Operation of the flow barrier at times of reversal of flow. (since 1997).
-Maintenance of Orders of Condition for flow barrier and weed treatment.
-Organization of a Clean Up Day around lakes and many other projects.
The QQLA’s purpose is to provide stewardship of the watershed that drains into Brookfield’s major lakes.
