The Friends of the Merrick Public Library is a nonprofit organization of volunteers that support quality library service in the community through raising public awareness of and advocating for library resources and needs, promoting a public commitment to literacy and library engagement, and supplementing town, state, and trustee funding of materials, programs, equipment, and staff development. The Friends collaborate with the Board of Library Trustees to promote library objectives and interests, support policies, and assist with fundraising, including an annual silent auction and used book sales.

Monthly public meetings are held at the Library.

New members and project volunteers are always welcome. Currently, the Friends are seeking volunteers for a fundraising campaign to acquire property adjacent to the library for a local historical museum and library space that will provide:
Meeting space
Exhibit space
Archival storage of collections of Brookfield’s historical records, artifacts, books, maps and other memorabilia
In addition, the Friends of the Library welcome assistance with the annual book sale and silent auction.
Financial donations accepted and are tax-deductible.

The Friends accept books, audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, magazines, puzzles, games, e-readers, school supplies, office supplies, artifacts, antiques, maps, atlases, and more.
