The Town of Brookfield is managed by a three-member Board of Selectmen elected by the voters.
The Cemetery Commissioners preserve, care for, and maintain the historic Brookfield Cemetery, issue burial permits, adopt regulations relative to the Cemetery, and seek funds for historic preservation of the Cemetery stones, arches and other elements.
The Highway Department is responsible for maintaining town roads, sidewalks and the fleet of equipment to maintain the roads. It also mows and trims the Common, Lewis Field, Mill Station Park, the Washington Monument, Police Station, the overlook at the Murray Bridge and South Pond.
The Planning Board is a 5-member, elected, municipal board that is responsible for applying state and local laws to issues of land use and development.
The Brookfield Recreation Committee provides recreation activities for children in soccer, baseball, softball and basketball and adult recreational activities in basketball, volleyball, and soccer.
The Commissioners of the Brookfield Water Department manage the water district located in the center of Brookfield and ensure that customers have access to high quality water that meets all state standards.
The prime function of this committee is to review the town's departmental budgets and submit a balanced budget to the Annual Town Meeting.
The Brookfield Community Club organizes the annual Apple Country Fair—featuring crafters, food trucks, music, children’s games, raffles, and an apple pie contest—on the Brookfield Town Common on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. Proceeds from the fair fund grants that enrich community life.
The Brookfield Congregational Church serves the larger community in many ways including Vacation Bible School, the Spirit Lifters, mission activities, Boy Scouts, and Alcoholics Anonymous.
The Brookfield Democratic Town Committee works to elect candidates and pass legislation to uphold Democratic ideals. It launched the Better Brookfield campaign to improve civic engagement in town.
